I spend a lot of my free time hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I went back over the past year and half of my hillstomping photo albums and put together a review album of some of the choice pictures. If you like mountain pictures, you'll love the slideshow. Best viewed in full screen mode and turn up your speakers.

Camped overnight at Guyot campsite. Went out via Mt. Guyot, the Twinway, South Twin, Galehead hut, and Franconia Brook Trail to make it a nice loop hike.

The classic Ammo-Jewell loop. Accompanied by Stephen, Sam, and The Oz Man.
- Mt. Moosilauke
Up and back via the Glencliff trail
- Mt. Sava
Up the Ammonusuc Trail and down the Jewell Trail. Amazing conditions for these last few days of winter: snow was still stiff, consolidated and buoyant, warm temps (around 0F with wind chill), and full on sunshine on this bluebird day. Lots of other hikers out, too-- look for 'em in the pics.
- Winter 2011 Hiking Medley
A compilation of photos from various winter hikes this year.
- Mt. Moosilaukee Moonwalk
Up and back via the Glen Cliff trail.
- Mts. Methodius and Elijah
Unseasonably warm day on the summits-- a balmy 10F with wind chill! Lots of hang time of Methodius. Wind picked up by the time we made it up to Elijah to we didn't linger as long. Trails nicely packed, brought snowshoes but they rode on my pack the whole day. Bare boot or Katoolas was the ticket. Up and back via Valley Way Trail.
- Little Haystack
Up and back via Falling Waters Trail. Originally planned to hike the ridge but the perversely came in while at Little Haystack... and then left when I partway back down Falling Waters. D'OH!
- Welch n' Dickey
Did the loop clockwise: Dickey first then Welch.

Hiked in from the State Park side. Haven't done that in years. Met up with a couple other dudes along the way and hiked with them for a bit.
- Pilgrimage to Mt. Athos
Six intrepid pilgrims journeyed from Babylon to the Holy Mountain, the monastic republic of Mt. Athos in Greece. By the grace of the All-Holy Mother of God, they reached Vatopedi monastery and for nine days, immersed themselves in the life and rhythm of the monastery with its gentle and loving Fathers. - Slipping and Sliding On The Welch and Dickey Loop Watching the Chemtrails
Trail started off with packed snow that turned more to sheet ice higher up. Put on my Yak Tracks sometime after the Ledges.
Skies started off clear blue. But as the day progressed, multiple jets high up left persistent contrails or, dare I say, chemtrails. Look at the photos and see what you think.
I watched at these contrails stay around and gradually spread out, forming wispy clouds and eventually obscuring the blue sky. What are they spraying up there?
- Cardigan, The Big Loop
The perfect hike with The Oz Man. Did the big loop: Back 80 Trail to Mowgliss to the Firescrew/Cardigan ridge over Mt. Orange via the Skyland Trail and down via the Visamount and Cathedral Forest Trails.

The classic loop: up via Falling Waters Trail, across the ridge, and down via OId Bridal Path. Some excitement with a lost dog at the hut.

Amazing blue skies on this hike. The sky was so blue that it came right out of solution and stuck to my skin, making it blue, too. The Oz Man and I hiked up to Chocorua via the Weetamoo Trail and down via the Piper Trail.
- Mt. Sava
Hiked up and back via the Jewell Trail and Gulf Side Trail
- Sandwich Dome
- Mt. Moosilauke

Met up with a couple other hikers, Euritice and Lisa, and we teamed up and bushwacked to the true summit. Great hike!

Headed out right after Divine Liturgy on the day of the Theophany of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ. Up and back on the Glencliff Trail. Awwwwwesome hike!
- Franconia Ridge Traverse
Made this trip with Steve. Hiked up Old Bridal Path to Lafayette. Totally in the clouds with raging wind and rime ice. Hiked the ridge as far as Liberty, made it just in time for sunset. We skipped Flume because there wouldn't have been any views so why bother? Down via the Liberty Springs Trail.

- Mt. Crawford
Up via Davis Path and then pushed on to the base of Mt. Resolution. Trail was in perfect condition, packed down by snowshoes with nary a posthole in sight. On my return from Mt. Resolution, someone had come up and gone back down, barebooting the entire way and postholed the trail. Why don't people like that just stay home?
- Mt. SantAnna
Up and back via the Winslow Trail. Trail had not been trodden upon since that last heavy snow so I was breaking trail all the way up. Good workout! Cool light show, too.
- Mt. Methodius
Hiked up Mt. Methodius (which some folks still call Madison) in the Northern Saints Range (formerly the Presidential Range) of the White Mountains. Awesome views, as you can see. Check out the slide show. Best viewed in full screen mode and turn your speakers up!

Hike up Mt. Chocorua with Bubba. Up and back via the Piper Trail. Didn't see another soul on the trail the entire day; me and Bubba had the windy summit all to ourselves.
- Mt. Liberty with The Bubba!
This was The Bubba's last hike in the White Mountains. His spine degeneration got so bad that he could no longer do strenuous hikes. This dog hiked all the 48-4,000 footers in the White Mountains with me. May his memory be eternal! God bless you, Ouzo!
